Welcome to Behind The Facets

Where the Jewelry World Connects.

Stories. People. Business. Beyond the Gems.

Born in the heart of the Los Angeles Jewelry District, Behind The Facets brings together the people, stories, knowledge and ideas shaping the jewelry industry, in real conversations, from people to people.

Where the story lives

From the earth to the conversation.

Every piece of jewelry travels a long way before it reaches someone. Behind The Facets follows that path, and the people at every step of it.

From people to people

Real people. Real conversations. Real craft.

Social feeds are filling up with synthetic voices, generated faces and content nobody stands behind. Behind The Facets goes the other way: people from the jewelry trade at the same table, telling their own stories in their own words, and a community that answers back.

Real voices

Every episode starts with a real person on camera: a jeweler, a gemologist, a designer, a dealer. No synthetic hosts, no generated guests.

Conversation, not content

We listen first and ask the questions the trade actually asks. Guests get the time to explain their craft, their decisions and their doubts.

A community that takes part

Viewers suggest guests and questions, professionals meet each other, and every season brings the District around the same table.

Why Behind The Facets?

Our role as communicators: listen, ask, connect.

Behind The Facets is an independent media initiative from the Los Angeles Jewelry District. It is not a jewelry store and it does not sell stones. Our work is to communicate: to give the people of the trade a credible place to be heard, to explain the market to everyone who loves jewelry, and to connect the professionals who make it.

Beyond the conversation.

Every episode becomes articles, visual explainers and short videos, so the knowledge of each guest lives beyond the full conversation.

Our roots

A district of dreamers.
A world of craft.

Behind the windows and above the storefronts, jewelry is a living conversation between designers, setters, dealers and generations of expertise.

Hill Street’s historic commercial buildings tell part of downtown’s early twentieth-century story. Today, the Jewelry District gives Behind The Facets its community and its point of view.

Before the brilliance, there is the hand.

A Behind The Facets story follows the decisions behind a piece of jewelry: the sketch, the setting, the choice of stone and the finish that brings it all together.

Our conversations with designers and makers become articles, visual explainers and short videos, giving their expertise a life beyond the full episode.

A few city blocks. A world of connections.

Los Angeles City Planning identifies the Hill Street Commercial Historic District as part of downtown’s early twentieth-century commercial development. That architectural history is the setting for the Jewelry District’s community today.

Los Angeles also has a place in the history of gemological education: Robert M. Shipley established GIA in 1931, beginning in his Los Angeles apartment.

Behind The Facets builds its point of view around the people who work in this community: their expertise, relationships and journeys.

Every extraordinary stone starts somewhere.

From Zambian emeralds to Sri Lankan colored gems, origin opens a conversation about geology, craft, trade and the people involved in a stone’s journey.

Our selection includes individual mines and broader gem-producing regions. It is an editorial starting point, not a ranking by output, value or ethical performance.
